Getting Older

Ok, so I'm only in my early thirties (so I'm not that old) but there are a few tale tale signs. Last week I went to get my roots touched up (because I am pretty much salt and pepper without color) Well my lady uses a dark brown with a hint of red. It always look beautiful when I leave, but a few days later I notice that a few places are kinda redder than the others, almost a fuchsia in a few places. So what I figure is that is where all my gray hair is. So then I start looking in the mirror all over my hair and I notice there are a lot of these little spots. OMG! I have decided, First I will have her use less red next time I go in, and Second I will probably dye my hair until I can no longer get away with being a brunette! Now it doesn't look bad out in the sunlight, but man it's scary when your hair turns against you and does weird crap!

Funny things my MIL says

OK so I thought being a foster mom would leave me with all kinds of funny things to write about. Well as it turns out it didn't, but having my MIL move in did. If you remember Archie Bunker from All in the Family, she will remind you a bit of him. I will be adding to this post as she says more funny ass things.

Happy New Year...Let's get 2010 started

Well I have to back up a bit. December was pretty good. I was able to take the boy and my MIL down to my home town for a few days before Christmas. The 6hr drive wasn't too bad. Normally it's just me and the boy, who is either listening to music or talking to his friends on the phone while saying how bored he is.
This time he sat in the backseat listening to Treasure Island on his Ipod, while the MIL sat up front with me. Normally this leaves me praying for someone to stab me in the ear and put me out of my misery, but this time wasn't too bad. She just recently had to get dentures so she has to talk really slow and LOW so her teeth don't fly out. It was nice to drive along and not reach for the volume knob only to find out it's not the radio that is too loud, it's her.
So the 4day visit with the fam was nice. We mainly hung out at their house. They threw a small pre-Christmas gathering. I was thinking that we would have like Ham or Turkey and some great Christmas sides.....NOPE. We had Lil' smokies, Queso and Chips, Meatballs in brown gravy, Taco Soup with noodles, and lets not forget the staple of that house Macaroni and Cheese. On a more positive note, I was able to see 4 Aunts and Uncles from my Mom's side and a few of my cousins and their kiddos. They didn't hang out very long but at least they showed. Then my SIL's coworkers and few mutual friends showed up which was alright I guess. I did like the fact that I got to meet my Bro#2's fiance. She's a really nice girl, I just hope he doesn't run this one off.
So Christmas Eve we headed back home...in 6hrs we went from 70degrees down to 28degrees with what I could only call a slight Blizzard. The snow was being blown so hard that you couldn't hardly see a thing. The DH hadn't thought about what we would do for dinner so we thought Pizza, WRONG! They closed at like 4pm. So I sent my DH out in the snow to find food. I think we ended up with Whataburger or something.
So Christmas day was fun....the boy actually woke up before us (which hasn't happened in years since he was like 6) So we got up, opened presents, had breakfast....nothing really exciting. I was pleasantly surprised by my gift from the DH.....a new laptop(which I'm using right now) I had his all planned out. I was going to order him a Personalized Cowboys Jersey from the NFL Shop. I ordered it at Thanksgiving, and just a week before Christmas I get and email that says, We're sorry but your order has been cancelled because we don't have the materials to make you order. I FREAKED out! That was my only big present I had for him. So at the last minute I had to run to the store to find something, anything at this point. DH is a HUGE XBox 360 guy, so I figure ok well I can get him a new controller. Done! Then I found a cool charging station for the controllers. Done! OUT OF TIME. I think he liked it but I did tell him what his real present was supposed to be and he said he was happier with the controllers. We had a wonderful dinner with our friends who live across from us. And it was a real Christmas Dinner gathering, complete with Turkey, Cranberry sauce, rolls and desserts. We brought the Ham, Greenbean Casserole, Sweet Potatoe Casserole. Oh and PLENTY of Wine was had by all!
New Years Eve was spent working in a Hospital Outpatient waiting area. My BFF HeaD (that was how the intake nurse identified her so it stuck) had to have sugery, and since her hubby is overseas at the moment I filled in for him. Everything went well, and we were out of there and home by 230pm. The rest of the day we sat around in her bedroom watching TV. At Midnight I called my DH (waking him up) to wish him a HNY since I was staying the night with her.
So far this New Year has been pretty good to us. I've been fighting a cold/sinus infection so I haven't been able to get out and do much. The boy just went back to school on Monday, so it's been really quiet.
I've resolved to at least make one entry every other week. I just don't have enough going on in my life to do more than that.
